Entry 013 - still driving. found the protocol card and a key fragment.
still on the road to nebraska. no more blank signs yet, but every car that passes feels like it's watching me. i can't stop for very long.
i was looking through a PHOENIX signals manual, trying to make sense of the geneva broadcast and i found this small, laminated card hidden in a slit in the page. it's the decryption protocol.
on the back of the card, someone had written a short sequence of numbers in faint pencil. the pencil handwriting doesn’t look like my grandfather’s. it looks almost rushed, like someone scribbled it in during an emergency.
it has to be the first part of the one-time pad key for that broadcast i posted about.
i'm typing out everything. the instructions and the key fragment. i don't have time to try and solve it myself right now.
k-echo decryption protocol - phoenix sigint
character set: standard k-echo table (a=01, etc)
operation: plaintext (p) = ciphertext (c) - key (k)
modular correction: if result is negative, add 47
otp key fragment 01 (from back of the card)
37 33 00 45 17 38 05 22 28 46
30 34 37 42 37 36 32 28 20 30
28 42 32 40 14 20 12 37 34 35
17 35 08 27 34 11 28 05 28 01
this is all i have for now. i have to get back on the road. i'm about a day and a half out from eleanor's town.
